Our Blog

Welcome to our blog. Equip teams travel frequently from the UK to Rwanda. There have been many adventures and much learning and we have often posted blogs on our social media to tell stories of what Equip is doing. Here are a few of the best from over the years.

The Cost of a Sunday Lunch

The Cost of a Sunday Lunch

One of the most humbling experiences Equip team members have when visiting Rwanda, is the opportunity to visit the homes of those we know and love and to receive hospitality from them. Paul and I had this opportunity last Saturday when we spent time with a good friend. Our friend is facing an uncertain future. He is now reaching retirement age but, like many Rwandans, has no pension provision.

Where Is Mama Eric?

Where Is Mama Eric?

The phone call had a slight air of panic about it. “I can’t find Mama Eric!” Paul had taken Rob to meet her and had carefully followed the path that had been taken the time before to visit her home. Often transient, as she was frequently moved on by one landlord after another, home was for the moment, a tiny, dark shack deep in the slums of Kigali. She had been found to be moved on to a new home on many previous visits, but…

Graduation Day

Graduation Day

Today, ten years on from his first visit to Rwanda, Paul Johnson stood at the Umabano Hotel in Kigali, waiting for the Kingdom and Secondary Vocational School’s first ever graduation ceremony to begin. One man’s vision translated from a row of graves to rows of chairs ready to celebrate the achievements of young people who are launching into life now equipped with skills to gain productive employment.

Dancing In The Shadows

Dancing In The Shadows

She is one of the poorest people in this busy, hot and rapidly developing city and today we visited her home. Some of you may have had the privilege to meet and love Mama Eric, others of you will have already heard the remarkable stories of her life, and many of you will…

Sarah

Sarah

Today we met Sarah. She was one of eight pupils who was invited to attend the student voice session we held at KSV School this afternoon. She seemed slightly more distant and reserved than the others…

In The Church, With My people

In The Church, With My people

Yesterday I visited a small church outside of Kigali where on 15 April 1994 more than 5000 women, children and the elderly Tutsi were slaughtered in ways I won’t share on Facebook. Seeing the remains of bodies, clothes, shoes, cooking utensils, weapons, identity cards, bullet holes across the church alter, blood-stained walls will live with me forever. On that very day in 1994, I had celebrated my precious…

A Day With Pastor J

A Day With Pastor J

Whilst the wonderful team have been fulfilling their duties, teaching and preaching the gospel, I have been working with Pastor J to try and find the miracles needed to open the school in the beautiful village of Mageragere. I will post a full update in due course, but I thought you might like a glimpse into this world through a typical day in the life of Pastor J. The day begins early being awoken by birdsong and sunshine…
